The Embassy co-organised a panel discussion about asylum and migration policy from the Danish and Czech perspective
The event, which aimed at a broad public debate, took place in the premises of the Permanent Representation of the European Commission in Prague and was simultaneously livestreamed on Facebook, ensuring a greater reach and impact.
Representatives of the Ministry of Immigration and Integration of Denmark Grith Nørgaard, Interministerial Migration Taskforce, and Henrik Ankerstjerne, Deputy Permanent Secretary, presented the Danish vision of tackling irregular migration through agreements with countries outside Europe, including a mechanism for the transfer of asylum seekers.
On behalf of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic, Tomáš Urubek, Department of Asylum and Migration Policy, gave an account of the refugee implications of the Russian aggression against Ukraine and explained how the Czech Republic promptly reacted to the humanitarian crisis, opening its doors to over 300.000 refugees.
Clotilde Warin from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, talked about the progress achieved by the French presidency in the area of migration issues and elaborated on the presidency's step-by-step approach to the Pact on Asylum and Migration.
Lastly, Karolína Kottová, Deputy Head of the Permanent Representation of the European Commission in Prague, presented the views of the European Commission, and Magda Faltová, Director of the Association for Integration and Migration, shared the attitude of the civil society organizations on current developments and trends in asylum and migration policies.
The event was held in connection with Denmark's Minister for Immigration and Integration Mattias Tesfaye's visit in the Czech Republic, which primarily focused on learning about the assistance and support for Ukrainian refugees and discussing the priorities of the upcoming Czech EU presidency.
