Purchase prices of pork meat rising - Czech farmers buying pigs again

23.08.2016  14:15

Owing to falling prices of pork meat, the number of pigs has been steadily declining in the Czech Republic in recent years. Now, the situation seems to have recovered, prices have gone up in the last three months, and farmers keep purchasing new pigs from abroad. Last year, prices per kilogram of live weight of pig fell below 29 CZK. Currently, the prices increased to 33 or 34 CZK per kilograms of live meat. However, the question still remains whether this means a long-term improvement or just a short-term blip for the better. Nevertheless, Czech farmers are trying to reach the original state of the number of pigs in their farms before a crisis hit this sector in 2014.
